The captioned technical visit was organized by the MC Division, the Hong Kong Institute of Marine Technology (HKIMT) and the Hong Kong Joint Branch of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (HKJB of RINA & IMarEST) in the morning on 27th May 2017.

Liebherr (HKG) Limited was set up in 2000. It is a manufacturing company for shipboard cranes, tower cranes, mobile cranes, earthmoving equipment, mining moving machines and it has also invested in the concrete technology. The company occupied an area 23000m2 in Ping Che, Fanling. In it, the main workshop area occupied of 1310m2, a welding shop of 410m2 and a blasting and painting room of 600m2. In giving a positive and quick response to the customers all over South East Asia, a new after sales service and customer training center was set up in 2011. In 2014, Liebherr had been approved by HKSAR as a recognized training center for crane operators. Last year, Liebherr expanded their training to include a loader course which is also recognized by HKSAR.

After a brief introduction to the historical background of Liebherr (HKG) Limited, we were guided to their training center. In order to strengthen their training quality, Liebherr’s trainings are strengthened by a Simulator – LiSIM. This is an enhanced version of the original soft and hardware Liebherr simulators. Such a cost effective and highly efficient training solution enhances safety at work and productivity.

From the visit, we now understand that for a brand name to be established in a society, a clear vision and mission have to be set up by the owner. Extraneous effort on getting their products recognized by the local government is also an important step to establish its foothold in any society.
