Technical Seminar : Digital Transformation of Design Engineering, Management Engineering Project and Operation & Maintenance

Date, time & venue

2018-06-27;6:30pm to 8pm;James Chiu & Dragages Rooms – 9/F

Programme Highlights
According to Moore's law, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years. For over 50 years, his theory has held up. This also means that digital technologies will evolve more rapidly every day. When Revit was created, the iPhone did not yet exist. More than 10 years have passed and our industry is still hosting events to convince engineers that BIM is the way of the future. In the meantime, we can speak to our iPhone and it will respond with meaningful results.

We all need to be aware that technology is rapidly catching up with us. Within this lifetime, the work that we currently do will be commoditised. Automation, Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence will slowly start to take over some of the laborious and repetitive tasks that we proudly carry out each day.

The mechanical engineer of the future needs to be prepared for that. Start considering the work that you do as part of a well-oiled production line and imagine the manual work that you do to be performance bottlenecks for the entire process. This is the mindset you need to advance your career and make it future-proof.

Ramon van der Heijden, Digital Design and Services Leader at Ove Arup & Partners East Asia will explain how Arup is preparing their staff for this change.
