Technical Seminar: The true costs of marine environmental compliance

Date, time & venue

2018-06-21;18:30-20:30;Harbour Club, 25/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong

Highlights of Technical Seminars
Environmental compliance has long been a daily consideration of ship owners and operators, however, with Ballast Water Management legislation entering into force alongside the IMO global sulphur cap and EU Ship Recycling regulations, the compliance challenges facing the industry are significant. Across these three legislative requirements, ship owners and operators are, collectively expected to spend billions of dollars, simply in the name of achieving compliance.

This presentation will examine each of these three legislative requirements in detail, highlighting, through unique case studies and interesting anecdotes, some of the hidden costs of achieving compliance. The presentation will round off by summarising steps owners and operators can take to minimise the impact of these issues, and practical ideas for minimising compliance costs overall.

Biography of Seminar Presenters

Chris McMenemy
Chris McMenemy is Managing Director of marine environmental compliance specialists Cleanship Solutions and is widely considered a subject matter expert on ballast water management and retrofit engineering. Chris began his post-graduate career at Malin Group, joining to head up the diversification of the company’s service offering into marine environmental compliance, quickly becoming a subject matter expert on the application of ballast water management legislation to existing vessels, and the retrofit options available. Chris was a founding member of the IMarEST Ballast Water Expert Group and established himself as an important contributor to industry knowledge and awareness of compliance.
