Programme Highlights

 

In this seminar, we are grateful to invite “Sustainability Leader of the Year of 18/19” Ir Dr Vincent CHENG to share his view on sustainability development in Hong Kong and his successful career development.

 

Organised by the Hong Kong Management Association, the award recognises organisations, business leaders and sustainability experts demonstrating commitment to sustainability in their business operation, as well as significant contribution to the sustainable development of their organisations and the business community.

 

Educated and trained in the field of sustainability engineering, Dr CHENG has been dedicating himself to the transformation of building industry and professional practice along the principles of sustainability for more than 25 years.

 

Dr CHENG has been leading sustainable projects that address issues of rapid urbanisation and climate change in Asia, including eco-cities, passive buildings, smart city as well as zero carbon buildings. His projects and leadership have become an integral part of Arup’s commitment to sustainable development as defined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Speaker

Ir Dr Vincent CHENG is the Director of Building Sustainability Group of Arup. He leads a team of 100 engineers and specialists practicing primarily on sustainable developments and low carbon building design in East Asia. Under his leadership, the team has pioneered many pivotal projects including BEAM Plus NB V2, EMSD Code of Practice for Energy Efficiency of Building Services Installation (2012, 2015 and 2018), District Cooling System projects (in New Development Areas at Kwu Tung North and Tung Chung, Kai Tak Development and West Kowloon Cultural District), CIC ZCB, Samsung GREEN TOMORROW, and Victoria Dockside. Arup was awarded as “the BEAM Consultant with most BEAM Plus Final and Provisional Platinum Projects” by HKGBC in 2015. 

Dr CHENG serves in government and professional bodies on energy and sustainability of Hong Kong, currently as Director of Hong Kong Green Building Council and Committee Member of Energy Advisory Committee of Environment Bureau, Expanded Building Committee and Technical Committee on Design and Construction Requirements for Energy Efficiency of Buildings of Buildings Department to advice the Government and professionals on sustainable building issues. To promote the practice of sustainability in the industry, he initiated the incorporation of Sustainability Specialist Working Group within HKIE.

Dr CHENG sees the importance of educating young talents to service the industry and the community. He has been the advisor of the School of Energy and Environment of CityU since its inception in 2009. He is also the advisor of the Department of Building Services Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering of PolyU.

He has written a book titled “Building Sustainability in East Asia”, published by Wiley in 2017, to promote the importance of sustainability with the industry and public.

This seminar is free of charge and prior registration is required.  The number of participants is limited to 50. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to members of MMNC Division. Only on-line registration via MMNC divisional website http://mc.hkie.org.hk/ shall be accepted for registration. Attendance certificates will be issued after the event.
