Technical Webinar on Introduction of Shipyard

Programme Highlights
Around 90% of transportation of cargoes in the world trade relies on ships. Without shipping, intercontinental transfer of the bulk materials, food and manufactured products would simply not be possible. As such, the gear for this role, namely ships and their construction and repairing are essential to sustain the sea transportation as well as to maintain the chain of living. The seminar (webinar) will introduce the industry of shipyard, ship building and ship repairing as well as their major elements, works and equipment.

Speaker
Ir M.Y. Chan graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1984 with Higher Diploma Marine Engineering. Then he was serving on ocean going ships as Fifth Engineer to Second Engineer and got Class 1 Certificate of Competency in UK in 1989. Having topped up BEng Mechanical Engineering, Ir Chan sailed again as a Chief Engineer and worked as a superintendent in a local shipyard. He settled down in the Marine Department as a Surveyor of Ships in 1992 and he is now a Principal Surveyor of Ships. 29 years career life of Ir Chan in the Marine Department covers ship safety & management, Shipping Registry, seafarers management, examinations, international conventions and Government Dockyard.

This seminar is free of charge and prior registration is required.  The number of participants is limited to 150. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to members of MMNC Division. Only on-line registration via MMNC divisional website http://mc.hkie.org.hk/ shall be accepted for registration. Attendance E-certificates will be issued after the event.
