Programme Highlights:
Have you thought of choosing merchant navy as your
profession? The main transport mode for global trade is ocean shipping. Around
70% of traded goods in value are carried over the waves. It is not a career
only for those who have studied on nautical science, but for engineering
students as well. Being an engineer on seagoing ships may give you a completely
different exposure to the world, extensive practical hands-on experience on
machinery with know-how, work in multicultural environment with international
crew, straightforward career path, etc.
However, job opportunity in the maritime sector is wider
than just seagoing career, marine engineers are also needed in many shore
facilities and organisation, such as ship management companies, classification
societies, consultancy firms, engines and machinery suppliers/ servicing
stations, shipyards and government organisation.
This career talk will provide an overview of the maritime
industry in Hong Kong, possible career paths for Mechanical Engineering
students, paths to obtain professional status, and sharing from experienced
seagoing engineers and maritime professionals.
Language: The
presentation will be mainly delivered in Cantonese; the Q&A could be in
English or Putonghua.
