Ship Registration, Survey & Certification

Programme Highlights
The registration of a merchant ship is the jurisdiction under her flag flying with, and is deemed the nationality of the vessel. Under the UN Conventions, a series of articles are set out for the registration, safety, navigation, labour condition, manning, training, survey and certification for ships, in particular those trading internationally. The seminar will introduce the general conventions and rules for ocean going ships for their safe trading and operation, in terms of ship registration, survey and certification.

Speaker
Ir M.Y. Chan -
Ir Chan studied Higher Diploma Marine Engineering in the Hong Kong Polytechnic from 1980 to 1984 with one year cadetship on ocean going ship. Then he joined ships as Fifth Engineer to Second Engineer from 1985 to 1989 and got Class 1 Certificate of Competency in UK in 1989. Having topped up a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree, Ir Chan sailed again as a Chief Engineer. With a total of 58-month sea time from Cadet to Chief, Ir Chan gained experience in operation, repair, maintenance, inspection, fault finding, modification, stock control and management relating to engineering department of ocean going ships. He settled down in the Marine Department as a Surveyor of Ships in 1992 and he is now a Principal Surveyor of Ships. 26 years career life of Ir Chan in the Marine Department covers the areas of local vessels safety, ocean going ships safety & management, Shipping Registry, Mercantile Marine Office, examinations, extension of international conventions to local legislations and Government Dockyard.

Registration & Enquiries 
This seminar is free of charge and prior registration is required. The number of participants is limited to 50. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to members of MMNC Division. Only on-line registration via MMNC divisional website http://mc.hkie.org.hk/ shall be accepted for registration. Successful applicants will be notified individually.
