Technical Visit to Chemical Waste Treatment Centre (CWTC)

Date, time & venue

2019-01-19;10:00am-12:00pm;Chemical Waste Treatment Centre (CWTC) in Tsing Yi

Programme Highlights

The Chemical Waste Treatment Centre (CWTC) is designed to carry out activities including Chemical Waste Collection, Waste Profile Analysis and Chemical Waste Treatment. It would be a precious opportunity for our members to appreciate the state-of-the-art engineering treatment technologies involved in the activities of the CWTC.

The CWTC, which is located in Tsing Yi, has been in operation since 1993. The design capacity of the CWTC is 100,000 tonnes per year of chemical waste. The main activities of the CWTC are Chemical Waste Collection, Waste Profile Analysis and Chemical Waste Treatment. The three main treatment processes are Oil/Water Separation, Physical/Chemical Treatment and Incineration. The CWTC includes several Ancillary Systems designed to support the treatment processes, these are the Waste Container Handling, Storage Tank Farm, Laboratory and Computer System. The intake of chemical waste collected by composition and distribution according to industry are regularly reported.

The purpose of this visit is to enable participants to gain better understanding of the operation of the chemical waste treatment in Hong Kong, including various equipment and engineering methodology deployed.
