Technical Visit to Shatin Sewage Treatment Works (Shatin STW)

Programme Highlights
Shatin Sewage Treatment Works (Shatin STW) is the largest secondary sewage treatment works in Hong Kong. It occupies 28 hectares of land with sewage treatment capacity of 340,000 m3 per day and ultraviolet light disinfection system after the stage III expansion completed at 2010.

The treated effluent will be discharged to Victoria harbor through 7.4km long tunnel and Kai Tak Nullah to relieve the red-tide problem in Tolo Harbour. To utilize the biogas generated in anaerobic digestion, two dual fuel generators with capacity of 1,100kW each are installed to produce electricity and heat for plant operation. And deodorization facilities have been put into operation to improve the surrounding environment.

Participating in this visit, members can understand more on the design, operation and maintenance of Shatin Sewage Treatment Plant.

To reduce the risk of the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the community, all visitors will be subject to temperature check and will be required to wear their own masks and use hand sanitizer before entering the facilities.

This seminar is free of charge* and prior registration is required.  The number of participants is limited to 28. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to members of MMNC Division. Only on-line registration via MMNC divisional website http://mc.hkie.org.hk/ on or before 17 July 2020 shall be accepted for registration.
