Technical Webinar: “HKIE MMNC X HKU Marine Conservation 3rd Session – Ocean Acidification”

Date, time & venue

2021-01-22;7:30pm to 8:30pm;Online Webinar by Zoom

Programme Highlights
In this webinar, we are grateful to invite Miss Tiffany Fung, Research Assistant from The University of Hong Kong, to be our speaker for “HKIE MMNC X HKU Marine Conservation 3rd Session – Ocean Acidification”. Through the series of webinar, HKIE MMNC division would like to widen our member’s knowledge of Marine Conservation so as to be aware of importance of environmental protection.

Living in Coca-cola- Ocean acidification
One of the emerging Climate Change related threats to our oceans is that of Ocean Acidification. Our marine waters are slowly and steadily turning becoming like Coca-cola! In this presentation we will discuss the links between Ocean Acidification and a warming world, the “winners” and “losers”, and our potential roles as divers.

Speaker
Miss Tiffany Fung

Academic background
During Miss Tiffany Fung’s undergraduate, she was supervised by Dr. Ang Put for her final year project about the evaluation of conservation effectiveness of Tung Ping Chau Marine Park through fish diversity and biomass.

For her first degree, she majored in Biology and graduated from CUHK in 2018. She graduated from the Master of Science in Environmental Management in HKU in 2020.

Currently, she is working as a research assistant to continue a project started in master. Cooperating with different professions ( Dr. Billy Hau, [HKU], Prof. Yvonne Sadovy [HKU], Dr. Baker [HKU], Dr. Not [HKU], Dr. Rajan [HKU], Stanley Shea [Bloom Association] & Mr. CK Lee [EPD]), this project aims at launching a marine conservation course for Hong Kong divers about 4 topics: Overfishing, Microplastic Pollution, Ocean Acidification & Coral Conservation.

Working experience
Non-marine conservation
She was a teacher in Achievers Tracks to teach science for 4 years in different primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong.

Marine conservation
She was involved in assisting surveys of different projects, such as the Hong Kong freshwater shrimp and mangrove crab conservation genetic project. She had experience working in different foreign marine conservation organizations, such as AIMM (marine mammals researcher), and Blue Corner Marine Conservation (coral conservationists).

Award
Participated in a Dugong conservation project in the Philippines through OPCF and was awarded the Best Conservationist Award of USSP in Wildlife Conservation 2017-2018.

Others
She is a rescue diver who is passionate about the marine and also other extreme sports. She has a vision to spread the message of marine conservation among the Hong Kong diving community so they can become one of the strongest powers to conserve our marine.
