Technical Seminar on Hong Kong's Sewage Surveillance Programme

Date: 09 October 2024
Time: 18:30 – 20:00
Venue: Chan Yat Mei Sophie Room, HKIE Headquarters, 9/F Island Beverley, No.1 Great George Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Programme Highlights:
Join us for an insightful seminar on Hong Kong's award-winning Territory-wide Sewage Surveillance Programme. This innovative initiative, recognized with the Gold Award at the 2024 International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Awards, showcases groundbreaking efforts in using sewage surveillance to combat the COVID-19 epidemic. Discover how this programme, covering 80% of Hong Kong's population, effectively traces virus sources and serves as a sentinel surveillance function. During the fifth wave of the epidemic, advanced statistical models were developed to predict new cases in real-time, aiding in the formulation of anti-epidemic strategies. The seminar will delve into the programme's development, technological advancements, and its significant socio-economic benefits, as well as future applications for monitoring other infectious diseases.
