Programme Highlights:
Join us for an insightful seminar on Hong Kong's award-winning Territory-wide Sewage Surveillance Programme. This innovative initiative, recognized with the Gold Award at the 2024 International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Awards, showcases groundbreaking efforts in using sewage surveillance to combat the COVID-19 epidemic. Discover how this programme, covering 80% of Hong Kong's population, effectively traces virus sources and serves as a sentinel surveillance function. During the fifth wave of the epidemic, advanced statistical models were developed to predict new cases in real-time, aiding in the formulation of anti-epidemic strategies. The seminar will delve into the programme's development, technological advancements, and its significant socio-economic benefits, as well as future applications for monitoring other infectious diseases.

Speaker:
Dr. Samuel Chui, J.P., is the Director of the Environmental Protection Department in Hong Kong. With a distinguished career in environmental management, Dr. Chui has been at the forefront of innovative public health solutions. Under his leadership, the department has implemented the pioneering sewage surveillance programme, earning international acclaim for its role in controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. Dr. Chui's commitment to integrating water research into public health strategies demonstrates a visionary approach to environmental protection and public safety.

This seminar is free of charge and prior registration is required.  The number of participants is limited to 70. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis with priority given to members of MMNC, EVD and YMC Division. Only on-line registration via Enrollment Form shall be accepted for registration. Attendance certificates will be issued after the event.
